Natalia Johnson, a versatile mezzo-soprano and dedicated voice instructor from Kenmore, Washington, has spent over a decade guiding students of all ages—from four to over seventy—on their vocal journeys. Known for her empathetic and patient teaching style, Natalia believes that every voice is unique and deserving of thoughtful, individualized instruction.

Born in Seattle, she earned her Bachelor of Music from Western Washington University before pursuing a Master of Music and an Advanced Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy at New York University. Currently studying under Brian Gill, Natalia teaches with the pedagogical influence of Barbara Doscher, integrating both technical precision and artistic expression into her work.

As a performer, Natalia has graced prestigious stages across the country, collaborating with companies such as Amore Opera, New Amsterdam Opera, The Miami Music Festival, New York Lyric Opera Theater, Pacific Northwest Opera, and Opera on Tap. Her notable roles include Marcellina (Le nozze di Figaro), Mother Mathilde (Dialogues of the Carmelites), Sally (A Hand of Bridge), and Susanna Walcott (The Crucible), alongside chorus appearances in Aida, Die Fledermaus, The Magic Flute, Goyescas, and Così fan tutte. She has performed at esteemed venues such as Lincoln Center, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, and the National Opera Center.

Natalia’s teaching philosophy centers on helping singers find their true, authentic voice—both in terms of technique and artistic identity. She believes that “finding freedom in the ability to truthfully express one’s inner voice is not only artistically gratifying but completely invaluable.” With a strong foundation in vocal health, Natalia prioritizes sustainable technique, ensuring that her students can develop their voices for lifelong singing. She understands that learning styles vary and tailors each lesson to the individual, using a combination of physiological knowledge, experiential learning, and psychological awareness to unlock a singer’s full potential.

For Natalia, voice lessons are not just about technique; they are about fostering confidence, curiosity, and emotional connection. By creating a supportive and respectful environment, she encourages her students to take risks, explore their artistry, and develop independent musical thought. Through her work as both a performer and an educator, Natalia Johnson continues to inspire, uplift, and cultivate the next generation of vocal artists.
